12.10.2012 Moxa is pleased to unveil a new family of serial device servers that excel in railway applications, the NPort 5000AI-M12 series. These serial device servers come with rugged M12 connectors and meet strict EN 50155 and EN 50121-4 criteria for rolling stock applications.
The NPort 5150AI-M12 has already proven to be an indispensable device in rolling stock passenger information display applications. In this type of application, the NPort creates a solid communication bridge from the Ethernet network to on-board serial devices, such as LED displays and door sensors. Onboard devices must contend with meeting strict railway standards, operate despite constant train vibrations and shocks, and even face rust and corrosion damage.
NPort 5000AI-M12 serial device servers succeed in these applications because they are tailored specifically for rolling stock deployment: compliance with key industrial standards accelerates system certification, rugged M12 connectors secure cables in the face of any train vibrations, and available conformal coating prevents rust and corrosion from damaging the system.
“System integrators have found that even in a modern, IP-based onboard network, serial communications technology is still a key part in the tool box,” explained Ryan Ma, Product Manager at Moxa, Inc. “Serial connectivity allows train operators to use their legacy devices when retrofitting existing train lines, and in new installations using serial connectivity can dramatically simplify your cable wiring and make installation much easier. With M12 connectors, system integrators can count on the NPort 5000AI-M12 to provide a consistent Ethernet-to serial communications link, no matter how much the train vibrates.”
NPort 5000AI-M12 serial device servers come with one to four RS-232/422/485 ports. Models with conformal coating or wide temperature rating are also available. The NPort 5000AI-M12 will be widely available for order in October, 2012.
