25.06.2012 Combining the benefits of CMOS and global-shutter technology, the FL3-U3-13Y3M-C monochrome digital camera from Point Grey Research delivers distortion-free 1280×1024-pixel images of fast-moving objects at 150 fps over a USB 3.0 interface. The camera, which is part of the Flea3 series, is a compact 29×29×30 mm and fits into the small, tight spaces commonly found in industrial imaging. The FL3-U3-13Y3M-C employs ON Semiconductor's VITA-1300 ½-in. CMOS image sensor with an on-chip 10-bit ADC. High-sensitivity 4.8×4.8-µm pixels support pipelined and triggered global-shutter readout modes. Camera features dedicated to maximizing USB 3.0 reliability include a 32-Mbyte frame buffer for image retransmission; on-camera power, temperature, and status monitoring; and field-updatable firmware. Point Grey has even developed its own USB 3.0 link-layer IP implemented in the camera's FPGA.
