Efficient Networks Speedstream 5260/5660 ADSL Modem with Built-in Router and Firewall

This is an Efficient Speedstream DSL modem, router and firewall all in one. Originally purchased as a 5260 ADSL modem bridge, its firmware has been flash-upgraded to the 5660 firmware revision 2.3.0, so that it is a full-fledged router as well as a DSL modem. It is model number 060-5660-003. It supports advanced features like DHCP, NAT, DNS, port forwarding and IP filtering. Just plug your DSL phone line into its phone line port and plug a standard ethernet network cable from your home or office LAN into the router's RJ-45 port--and now you can now safely share one DSL connection with all the networked computers on your home or office LAN behind the router’s configurable IP filter-based firewall. This device is compatible with nearly all major DSL providers that use DMT transmission technology, including SBC/Yahoo, but please check with your DSL service provider to confirm compatibility, as I cannot guarantee compatibility with your particular service provider.

The SpeedStreamTM 5600 Series Ethernet to ADSL router provides ATM-based network access for home users, telecommuters, or remote offices and are equipped with one Ethernet port and one Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) port. It has no serial or USB ports. These internet sharing devices use Discrete Multitone (DMT) technology to set data transmit rates. When the unit is first powered on, it will “train” the line to get the best data transmission rate. The 5600 Series internet sharing device can be used as either a router or a bridge. It is configured by default to operate as a router when it is first installed. To use it as a bridge, you must log into the router and change the mode to bridge mode.

Router Mode (factory default mode): • Provides IP routing between a Local Area Network (LAN) and the Wide Area Network (WAN). • Can be configured to use: • PPP (factory default) • RFC 1483 routed encapsulation • RFC 1483 bridged encapsulation

Bridge Mode (just DSL Modem functions without routing functions): • Provides high-speed connectivity from an Ethernet LAN to the WAN over the ADSL connection • Uses RFC 1483 bridged encapsulation over ATM

No software or drivers needed!! All configuration is done through the router’s built-in web-based GUI. Simply configure your network interface card for a DHCP-assigned IP address and DNS and then point your browser to http://10.0.0.1. Using your web browser you can access all the router’s basic and advanced configuration features. You can even upgrade its firmware to future revisions through the web-based GUI. No more messing with problematic PPPoE login software—the router can be configured to log on to your DSL service automatically for you and it will reconnect automatically if your connection is lost.
