5.2 GB Capacity ISO Compliant Drive
The first 5.2 GB 5.25-inch Magneto Optical drive on the market, the SMO-F551 provides up to 5.2 GB capacity in an ISO compliant drive design. Backward compatibility is a key feature in protecting your investment in existing data archives, and the 551 series meets this requirement. These drives not only read and write the latest 5.2 GB, 4.8 GB, and 4.1 GB media, but are compatible with all previous generations of 5.25-inch MO media. The 551 can read and write to 2.6/2.3 GB media, and read 1.3/1.2 GB and 650/600 MB media.
Improved data throughput
Along with increased capacity, the 551 series drives also deliver higher data transfer rates. With a sustained data transfer rate of up to 5 MB/s, the 551 series is up to 20% faster than previous drive generations. A fast 25 ms access time, a large 4 MB data buffer, and a fast industry standard SCSI-2 interface also help speed access to your critical data.
Compact size, low power
The SMO-F551 MO drives fits a standard 5.25-inch half height enclosure simplifying, installation into most desktop and server systems. In addition, low power requirements, less than 15 W, reduces the demand on your system power supply, making integration into workstations, servers, or automated disk libraries easier.

Sony 551 series drives have been tested for compatibility with many third party software solutions on most major operating systems, including Windowsr 95/98, Windows NTr, Novellr NetWarer, Unix (most varieties) and MacOSr.
