AccelePort Xp Overview
The AccelePort ® Xp, the newest addition to the Digi International AccelePort asynchronous adapter PCI product line, was designed to further enhance multi-user (retail point-of-sale, industrial control processing, data collection and office automation) and Remote Access Service (RAS)implementations.
The AccelePort Xp adapter, availablefrom two to 16 high-speed serial ports, provides wide application flexibility and superior CPU utilization. This is achieved through the adapter’s Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), which is built around an 80 MHz RISC processor, providing the most advanced and highest performing design on the market today. And, unlike the competition, the AccelePort Xp communicates at 921.6 Kbps, bi-directionally, on each and every serial port with low latency.
The AccelePort Xp comes in a wide array of DB-9, DB-25, and RJ-45 connector options that include fan-out cables, external I/O boxes, and rack-mountable chassis. These options connect to the adapter using a SCSI HD-68 connector*, reducing cable clutter and increasing connection reliability due to it’s small size.
* The AccelePort 2-port uses two DB-9 male adapters.
PortAssist Manager, Digi’s new Web browser-based management and reporting software, is another great feature that allows the AccelePort Xp to perform basic diagnostics, enhanced network administration and monitoring across all supported operating systems.

This allows each port to take full advantage of the high transmission speeds that are possible with V.34, 56 Kbps and V.90 modems, ISDN terminal adapters and video equipment. The combination minimizes CPU utilization by handling serial I/O communication interrupts, character processing and data transfers more efficiently. As a result, applications run faster. Hardware/software flow control ensures absolute data integrity required for demanding remote access environments.
